England cricket legend Freddie Flintoff feels “lucky” to coach in the Hundred after a serious car accident in 2022 while filming Top Gear, which left him with severe facial scars.
Following a break from the public eye, the 46-year-old returned to cricket, initially with England and now as head coach of the Northern Superchargers.
Flintoff, who played 79 Test matches for England from 1998 to 2009, later ventured into TV, hosting Top Gear and appearing on A League of their Own.
In an interview with the Hundred, he said, “Cricket has given me so much. It was my childhood dream, and it led to opportunities in TV. It’s great to be back. I’m a bit nervous, but it shows I care. I want the players to cherish the moment as I do now.”
This is Flintoff’s first professional head coach role, and he plans to stay in sports for the foreseeable future before possibly returning to TV.
