SimScale, a leader in cloud-native engineering simulation, has announced the launch of the world’s first foundation AI model for centrifugal pump simulation. Developed in collaboration with NVIDIA, this innovation aims to transform how engineers approach pump design.
Accelerating Design Optimisation
The newly introduced AI model leverages NVIDIA’s PhysicsNeMo framework, enabling engineers to optimise pump designs instantly. By exploring thousands of design points in real-time, the model accelerates simulation runs by approximately 2700 times compared to traditional methods. This significant enhancement allows for rapid iteration and refinement of designs, reducing the time required from days to mere seconds.
Cost Efficiency and Accuracy
In addition to speed, the AI-driven approach offers substantial cost benefits. By eliminating the need for expensive on-premise simulation tools, organisations can reduce computational expenses. Despite the accelerated process, the AI model maintains a high level of accuracy, delivering results that align closely with those obtained from traditional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations.
Global Accessibility Through Cloud Integration
Integrated into SimScale’s cloud platform, the AI model ensures accessibility for engineers worldwide, from startups to large enterprises. This cloud-native approach allows users to scale their simulation efforts without the limitations of local hardware, fostering innovation and efficiency across the engineering community.
Industry Perspectives
David Heiny, CEO of SimScale, commented on the development: “By combining SimScale’s cloud-native CAE platform with NVIDIA PhysicsNeMo, we’re focused on delivering ready-to-use AI models that eliminate simulation bottlenecks and unlock new levels of speed and efficiency for engineers.”
Tim Costa, Senior Director of CAE and CUDA-X at NVIDIA, added: “AI and accelerated computing are transforming engineering design. With NVIDIA PhysicsNeMo and SimScale’s cloud-native approach, we’re bringing AI-driven predictive simulation directly to engineers, empowering them to innovate faster than ever.”
Empowering the Engineering Community
The AI model is now available to SimScale’s global community of over 600,000 engineers. Users can request access to the model and begin optimising pump designs immediately. Additionally, SimScale and NVIDIA are hosting a live webinar to demonstrate the AI model in action and discuss its applications in the industry.
A Step Forward in Simulation-Driven Engineering
This development represents a significant advancement in simulation-driven engineering, particularly in the field of turbomachinery design. By integrating AI with cloud-native simulation, engineers can now navigate vast design spaces with high precision and efficiency, leading to continuous improvement and innovation in turbomachinery design.
The collaboration between SimScale and NVIDIA exemplifies the potential of combining artificial intelligence with advanced simulation tools, setting a new standard for engineering practices in the digital age.
