A pioneering London firm is blending AI innovation with Slovenian tradition to create a visionary lakeside estate.
Studio Tim Fu, a London-based architectural firm, is spearheading an AI-driven design revolution with a bold new project at Lake Bled, Slovenia. The Lake Bled Estate, a collection of seven ultra-luxury villas, merges advanced AI design methods with Slovenian architectural heritage, setting a new benchmark for AI-integrated construction.
Fusing AI with Architectural Tradition
Led by Tim Fu, a former designer at Zaha Hadid Architects, the studio has embraced AI to redefine the creative process in architecture. Speaking about the project, Fu described it as a “profound moment of change”, where machine intelligence enhances human creativity.
Commissioned by an undisclosed Slovenian philanthropist, the development is rooted in biophilic principles, promoting harmonious living with nature. Positioned against the Julian Alps and overlooking Lake Bled, the estate is designed to offer a restorative, immersive experience.
AI Meets Cultural Heritage
Spanning 22,000 square metres, the project consists of six new villas and Vila Epos, a historic cultural monument designed in 1909 by Jože Plečnik. AI was used to analyse traditional Slovenian architectural elements, such as the timber rizalit, a partial vertical enclosure that has been reimagined as a striking atrium flooded with natural light.
“This is the first time AI has been embedded so extensively in the architectural process,” said Rada Daleva, Project Lead at Studio Tim Fu. The studio used AI not only to generate prototypes but also to optimise the design for heritage conservation and environmental sustainability.
Revolutionising Spatial Design with AI
The estate focuses on wellbeing and social interaction, with villas oriented towards a central communal park to balance privacy and connectivity. AI played a key role in designing the landscape, pathways, and green spaces, ensuring optimal spatial flow.
The two-, three-, and four-bedroom villas feature open-plan interiors, maximising light and panoramic views. While exteriors reflect Slovenian architectural vernacular, interiors are designed to be expansive and contemporary, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation.
Located in northwestern Slovenia, Lake Bled is a renowned tourist destination, known for its scenic landscapes, Bled Castle, and Bled Island. The estate aims to complement the region’s rich history while embracing future-forward design.
