A nursery in Atherton, Greater Manchester, has been awarded the prestigious National NMT Nursery Award for Nursery Indoor Learning Environment of the Year. Partou Storytimes, located on Leigh Road, triumphed over nine other finalists from across the country to win the honour, with the judging panel praising the setting for its ability to inspire, excite, and engage children in their learning journey.
The award, presented during a ceremony at ExCeL London, recognises nurseries that create environments where children are actively involved in their education, and where their achievements are celebrated. Partou Storytimes was singled out for its dedication to creating a dynamic indoor space that encourages independence, curiosity, and a sense of wonder.
Nursery manager, Laura Farnworth, expressed her delight at the win, emphasising the role that the whole team and families play in making the nursery a special place for children. “On behalf of every one of the hardworking team members and the families who make the nursery what it is, it feels fantastic to receive this esteemed award,” Farnworth said. “Our indoor environment has been carefully designed to empower children to drive their own learning by promoting independence and curiosity.”
Farnworth explained that each age group, from babies to five-year-olds, is provided with its own dedicated space, carefully tailored to encourage developmental milestones. The baby room, for example, is designed to create a calm and welcoming environment, while older rooms feature enchanted play spaces with magical themes, twinkly lights, and natural elements that stimulate the children’s imagination.
“Enchanted play spaces with magical themed backdrops, twinkly lights and natural elements encourage a sense of security and excitement,” Farnworth added. “This dynamic environment not only excites children, but also motivates the team to continuously develop it.”
The nursery also includes quiet spaces and sensory rooms designed to meet the needs of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). These areas are carefully thought out to ensure that all children feel safe and supported in their learning journey, regardless of their individual needs.
Partou’s Managing Director, Samantha Rhodes, congratulated the team on their achievement. “Being shortlisted for a National NMT Nursery Award is a tremendous achievement in itself – winning it is simply outstanding,” she said. “Partou Storytimes is well resourced, and under Laura’s leadership, activities are thoughtfully organised to support daily routines and behaviours. As the award demonstrates, the children clearly thrive in an environment that celebrates their individuality and promotes autonomous learning.”
The National NMT Nursery Award for Nursery Indoor Learning Environment of the Year serves as a testament to Partou Storytimes’ commitment to providing a nurturing and inspiring environment for children. The nursery’s focus on creating spaces that support children’s development and well-being has earned it recognition as one of the best in the country.
