Meet Team buzz: Chris

Meet Chris final

What’s your role within buzz Manchester Health & Wellbeing Service?

I’m the new Neighbourhood Health Worker for Ardwick and Longsight, which basically means I get to support and develop new and existing activities that help to improve the wellbeing of people living in that area. I’m led by people in the community, so the job is about getting to know the people and the area, and linking local knowledge to existing networks and support. If there are things we don’t know, we work together to find things out.

Describe a typical day at work…

A typical day will involve being out in the community, finding out what people would like to be involved in to make them happy, and then helping them make that happen. That can be as simple as pointing them to where that activity already happens, or finding out if I can help them to create it and involve others. There’s lots of positive stuff happening already, and also the potential to do more.

What do you love most about your job?

I really enjoy working with people who want to make a difference, and I’m finding so many opportunities to work with really inspiring people doing great things in their communities. It’s a real privilege to be able to help.

If you had to do another job for one day what would you pick?

I think I’d like to be the guitarist in Paul McCartney’s band for one show, so long as I don’t have to stay up too late.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy being a member of the residents' association where I live, playing guitar, cycling, running, and spending time at my allotment. And watching weather forecasts.

What’s your favourite thing about Manchester?
