Hi I'm Matthew, Physical Activity and Movement Officer at MCRactive.

MCRactive, GLL, buzz Manchester Health & Wellbeing Service, More Life, Big Life, Better Health MCR, GLIGAN FITNESS, CAHN (Caribbean & African Health Network) and other partners are hosting an open day on Wednesday 6th April, 11am – 4pm, at Denmark Road Sports Centre in Ardwick. Denmark Road Sports Centre, 120 Denmark Road, Ardwick, Manchester, M15 6FG. The event is to mark the launch of the refurbished Denmark Road Sports Centre which is in the Ardwick neighbourhood where these agencies now share office space.

The aim of the event is to invite local residents into the space to find out what they would like to see happening and highlight the services available at Denmark Road Sports Centre already. Are there any activities like exercise classes, community group activities, or learning opportunities people would like to see happen? As the ethos of the Denmark Road Sports Centre is to shape its' offering along with what the community want, we will be carrying out a questionnaire on the day to really try to understand what the community want and what is missing in terms of services, whilst showcasing what already is on offer in the neighbourhood!

The open day is a day of activities and information from local services that aim to support the local community to live a healthier and happier life.

Here's the timetable for the day:

11am – 12pm – Quite hour – People can come and talk to service representatives and maybe try some low impact taster activities whilst there is minimal noise to ease them into the day

12pm – 4pm – Everyone is welcome to try a range of taster activities for juniors and adults along with learning about what local services are on offer to you

11am - 4pm - Digital corner to find out what’s going on locally

11am - 4pm - Wellbeing stalls where you can get more information about services in the local community

There will also be a climbing wall between 11am – 4pm

On Wednesday 23rd March ourselves and our partner organisations door knocked across the surrounding area to personally invite people to the event, this was to make sure that we're reaching out to the local community as best we can. We also took part in a Legacy Radio wellbeing slot with buzz Manchester Health & Wellbeing Service this week to get the word out about the day, and talk about general wellbeing. Again, we were trying to reach out to as many people as possible through different means.

We hope to see you on the day, but if you can’t make it don’t worry as we have a long term commitment to work on wellbeing projects at Denmark Road Sports Centre. So pop in one day and ask about what's going on!

If you'd like to get in touch with me you can email me on or call or text me on 07384 897323.
