Meet Team buzz: Nico

Meet Team buzz Nico tweet

What’s your role within buzz Manchester Health & Wellbeing Service?

I’m Nico (they/them). I’m the Neighbourhood Health Worker for Ardwick & Longsight.

Describe a typical day at work…

I’m not sure if there is a typical day, there's lots of variety!

Like many jobs, there are emails and phone calls. On an average day I might also be out speaking with residents in a park, then working with a community venue to advertise a community project they're hosting. After that I might discuss suggestions with a resident, and together we’ll explore the next steps to making that a reality.

What do you love most about your job?

I love listening and learning, and hearing residents' ideas and desires. I also enjoy getting to know people and learning about their passions, exploring areas and histories. These conversations highlight how unique and diverse we all are, which I love.

If you had to do another job for one day what would you pick?

I’ve always wanted to run my own café that is also a welcoming and inclusive community space. I have a passion for food and the connection across cultures, experiences and languages it can bring. I'd love to then host events in the evening that bring people together!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I took up crocheting in lockdown and I love it (I'm currently tackling a blanket). I also enjoy spending quality time with friends, supporting LGBTQIA+ creative spaces, and trying out independent coffee shops.

What’s your favourite thing about Manchester?

That within a 20 minute walk you can be surrounded by lots of trees and nature, or near some water. Even after 8+ years there’s always more to discover and new people to meet!
