It’s Our Birthday! Reflecting on the past...
buzz Manchester Health & Wellbeing Service has been around for 5 years this April, and around 30 years before we were called buzz! It was 2 years ago that the focus of our work changed to reflect the current work we carry out in communities, spanning our Neighbourhood Health Workers' community development work, Knowledge Service and Physical Activity Referral Service (PARS) Team.
We’ve decided to take this opportunity to celebrate our Birthday and reflect on some of the highlights of our work over the past 2 years! We’d also love you to share your memories and experiences of buzz over the years, please tweet us @buzzmanc.
Here’s just some of the highlights over the past 2 years…
buzz is coming HOME event at HOME, Manchester
After recently relaunching our service with a greater emphasis on community development, we held a special celebration event at HOME, Manchester back in December 2019 to bring together our partners, stakeholders and members of the community.
At this event we revealed our brand new video!
buzzmanchester.co.uk gets a makeover
The new design of the website has helped us to showcase our work and let you all see more of the work going on within buzz. We also upload blogs on Fridays, like this one, right here.
Spring 2020 – Spring 2021
Vital work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic
Neighbourhood Health Workers were busier than ever during the pandemic, despite the restrictions which were in place a lot of the time. Just a few highlights include Face It Together, Sing Yourself to Better Health, Write Up Your Street, and helping our partner Manchester Local Care Organisation with work around COVID-19 surge testing and vaccine uptake.
Our Knowledge Service launched our popular COVID-19 Resource Hub, a one stop hub bringing together all the most relevant information around the COVID-19 outbreak. From mental health support during the pandemic to myth-busting tools, and links to essential information on the outbreak, it's all here in one place. The Better Information Programme has been running successfully online during the pandemic, producing lots of Knowledge Champions armed with the very best tools to detect misinformation.
The PARS Team also moved their exercise classes online which worked incredibly well. In addition, the team made lots of YouTube videos to help people exercise at home, and shared many videos and health information on their Facebook page. They also produced a range of guides to help people get active at home safely, you can find these here.
Media coverage highlights
Word about our work spread far and wide over the past 2 years, with media coverage of our work being included on BBC Radio Manchester, Manchester Evening News, National Health Executive, Health Innovation Manchester, I Love MCR, Planet Radio, Hits Radio, Manchester Confidential, That’s Manchester TV, and many more!
This has been just a snapshot of some of the work that’s been going on during the past 2 years. We’ve been really busy as a service, and we love every minute of it!
