Meet Team buzz: Rick
What’s your role within buzz Manchester Health & Wellbeing Service?
My role within buzz is as a Physical Activity Referral Officer for the Physical Activity Referral Service (PARS) team. I assess people at clinics in one to one consultations when they have been referred with long term health conditions. I then signpost them to exercise classes within our team to help them manage these conditions. I also deliver a few classes myself.
Describe a typical day at work…
At the moment with COVID-19 I am based at home, so a typical day involves doing one to one telephone consultations and follow up consultations. I advise people on how to stay active while isolating and schedule them in a start date for attending classes with us when we can get back up and running. I also ring to check on our current service users, and do an information video weekly for our Facebook page which I hope I am improving on! Why not check it out and give us a like here? We're starting Facebook Live exercise classes next week which is exciting, you can see the timetable for these next week at the bottom of this page. I hope you can join us for some of them!
What do you love most about your job?
I love that you meet different people each day in clinics and get to know them better each time you see them. I like that I get to hear about how they are improving and benefitting from being part of the service. I also love the camaraderie and banter that people develop in the classes where we have a laugh and a chat while getting down to the real business of the exercise.
If you had to do another job for one day what would you pick?
I would have to pick being a professional tennis player. That was always my dream growing up so to experience that for a day would be amazing. Ideally on a day when I could win a tournament!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I am a captain of a tennis team at a club I have played at since about the age of 14. I also do calisthenics training with is body weight exercise. I like watching live sports, going to gigs and socialising with a couple of drinks with friends at the weekends.
What’s your favourite thing about Manchester?
I’m big into my indie and rock music, so my favourite thing about Manchester is how many gigs and live music events there are to see each week. Whether it’s a big gig at the arena or an unknown band playing in the back room of a bar, there is always great live music to watch! I'm looking forward to going to some more once that's something we can do again safely.
