Inspirational Women in Manchester's Communities
International Women's Day is coming up on Sunday 8th March, the perfect opportunity to hear from some inspirational women we work with in Manchester's communities! Take it away ladies...
Heather - Gorton
"It feels good to give, and people in my community appreciate that I want to offer my time to make West Gorton a happy and connected area. I enjoy knowing that I am changing the area for the better, and I love all the ways that people show their gratitude from smiles and hugs to drawings, people like to say thank you."
Muriel – Levenshulme
"I just like meeting people and having discussions. I really enjoy being a part of all the brilliant things that the community has to offer."
Nicky – Chorlton
"I feel better when I feel I’m helping people, especially if I can help them to help themselves. I enjoy writing poems and performing them, and being involved in peer support."
Kate – Levenshulme
"I work with the Inspired Taskforce, based at Levenshulme Inspire. The Taskforce is an older person led group that campaigns for the world to be a better place for older people. We also run lots of activities and social groups that keep people happy, motivated and laughing every day."
This year's International Women's Day theme is #EachforEqual
An equal world is an enabled world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day. We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world!
