Creative community building in Harpurhey
buzz Neighbourhood Health Workers recently spent two days at the Harpurhey Neighbourhood Project on a creative community building workshop with Gary Loftus from transformational training company The Orange Club. The training sessions focused on effective ways to engage with local communities around health and wellbeing initiatives they’re passionate about. Communities are at the heart of everything buzz does, so it was invaluable for our Neighbourhood Health Workers to be learning more about new ways of working with communities whilst based at the inspiring Harpurhey Neighborhood Project.
Across the two days the team explored innovative approaches to engagement including open space technology, world café conversations and the importance of focusing on listening as the most important skill for communicating with others. Here’s a thought-provoking TED talk Gary shared on the simple things we can do to have great conversations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6n3iNh4XLI
The workshop was an ideal opportunity to get together as a team and experiment with different ways of working, such as using LEGO to keep the creative atmosphere flowing throughout the day. Keep a look out for buzz Neighbourhood Health Workers running community engagement events within Manchester neighborhoods soon. We hope to see you there and can’t wait to connect, chat and get creative to bring your health and wellbeing ideas to life!
