Celebrating Black History Month
It’s Black History Month in the UK and events are being held up and down the country to celebrate African and Caribbean cultures and histories. Manchester has a whole month packed full of events to get involved in, you can check them all out here!
Here at buzz we’ve been getting involved in Black History Month
too, buzz Neighbourhood Health Worker Patsy recently attended the annual
Caribbean and African Health Network Gala at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.
Patsy picked up a Runner Up Organisational Partnership Award for buzz’s work
with Manchester's African and Caribbean communities.
Earlier in October, Patsy was also involved in the Raise Your Voice event held at Moss Side’s West Indian Sports and Social Club, funded through the Manchester Wellbeing Fund at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. This event was all about championing women in the local Moss Side community through music and inspiring talks. Simone Riley talks about her involvement in this event, as well as mental health in the black community, for BBC RadioManchester’s The Dead Good Show. You can listen to the show here, with the event being discussed at the follow times: 39 – 52 mins, 54 – 1 hr 8 mins, 1 hr 11 mins and 1 hr 21 mins.
If you’re part of a group that provides support and improves wellbeing within your community, why not apply for a grant from the Manchester Wellbeing Fund? Grants of between £250 and £3,000 are available. You can apply for funding here.
