buzz Ambassadors and Volunteers
Volunteers’ week runs from 1-7 June and is all about celebrating the difference volunteers make to communities throughout the UK.
Over the week, charities and organisations will be hosting events to recognise the contribution of their existing volunteers and showcase available roles to potential new recruits. The theme for this years event is “You make the difference”.
Volunteering provides an opportunity to get actively involved in causes you are passionate about. In Manchester, there are already hundreds of volunteers who are making a big difference in local healthcare. From driving hospital shuttle buses to befriending individuals who are feeling lonely, volunteers occupy a diverse range of health-related roles.
Volunteers are also essential to the work we do here at buzz. buzz Ambassadors perform a range of vital tasks which help us make a positive impact in Manchester. They ensure that our Health Check events run smoothly by helping to set up venues and book in arriving patients. In addition, buzz Ambassadors staff Health Information Points at various locations throughout the city where they provide health advice leaflets and guide people towards services that most suit their needs.
Alongside supporting local communities, volunteering has many other benefits. Jack Puller, Manager at Volunteer Centre Manchester, points out that volunteering is a great way to meet new people.
“One of the things I have experienced through volunteering is the social connections that you make with fellow volunteers and other people you meet along the way. Some of the dearest friends I have to this day, I’ve met through volunteering” said Jack.
buzz will soon be expanding its volunteer programme to include an events team and several walking group leaders.
