Rick Plant

Community Development Manager

I manage the Community Development team which has Neighbourhood Health Workers (NHWs) in each neighbourhood in Manchester. They can support local people or organisations to help turn ideas, ambitions and conversations into new projects, or help existing projects which need support to continue, adapt or grow. Their work is all about improving people’s health and wellbeing. Our work is resident led and uses a strength based approach. We also have two specialist teams with a specific focus on supporting early years intervention and age friendly community development.

I have worked in many different professions including aircraft manufacture and radio, but in terms of health I worked at HMP Manchester for 11 years to deliver health promotion programmes.

What I love about my job is the daily conversations I have with the NHWs following conversations they’ve had with local residents. We discuss and develop ideas, and allocate funding which then starts the ball rolling. buzz NHWs turn conversations into activity.

My interests include reading, writing, music and travel.
