Joanne Dawes

Physical Activity Referral Officer

I meet clients that have been referred to the service on a one to one basis. Together we complete a health check and set goals, then I refer them to exercise classes.

I completed a degree in Sport Studies and developed an interest in working with clients with various health conditions. I wanted to focus on how I could help individuals improve their fitness and wellbeing. I completed the British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation course as well as several other courses and then joined buzz.

Helping someone improve their health and fitness is very rewarding. It could be helping someone recover after a heart attack, a stroke or strengthening their muscles after a fall. Seeing people progress and feel happier is the main reason I enjoy my job.

I enjoy running and try to compete on the track and cross country. I love cycling and swimming, especially open water swimming. I also compete in triathlon. I’d like to do an ironman soon. Besides sport, I love spending time with my family and friends. I have a passion for music and play the piano.
